I don't think software licensing is unacceptable per se. But tying applications to specific machines often is a nuisance.

So if I am able to choose between a product that needs to be tied to a specific machine and an equally good one that runs wherever I want, I will choose the latter.

(In retrospect, this discussion might be better suited for talk than dev.)
