Eh? If it's GPL'd - I didn't check, but I'm willing to take Michael's
word on that - then anyone is free to take the code and do with it what
they will. The only stipulation is that any additions to the project, or
anything derived from it, must also be released as GPL code.
Having said that, I would certainly agree that "forking" the project,
which is what Michael seems to be talking about, is generally considered
a last resort when the original author either fails to meet users'
needs, or is MIA entirely. If the author is at least making an attempt
to maintain the project, then it's considered courteous to try to work
with him, instead of just taking the code and starting your own project.
It depends on the situation, but I'd say that what Michael is suggesting
is at the very worst merely rude - calling it illegal and immoral is a
bit over the top, I think.
