Peter,
This is in fact an OS X Finder bug that has existed since 10.2.0. It
occurs, when trying to replace the icon of a file or folder that
already has an icon.
I, and numerous others, have already reported this bug at
bugreporter.apple.com and through other channels. Why this bug hasn't
been fixed, is an enigma to me...It seems to be pretty straight-forward.
Using the bug reporting facilities is generally a much better way to
get a response from Apple, compared to posting to a public mailing
list. You may get lucky and get a response from an individual at Apple,
but it won't be official, and the Apple employee probably used his
spare time to reply (there aren't many Apple people who are paid to
monitor the lists).
If you want to be sure to get an answer, you should file a DTS
incident. But that costs money.

I got a couple of answers to my problem now and everything points in
the same direction. It seems to be a bug in OS X. Can someone at
Apple please tell me if this is a known bug and when I will be fixed
if that's the case?

Dear list!
I posted a question some days ago regarding my lost icons, see
below. I am still having this problem. I have also discovered that
it's impossible to copy and paste icons sometimes. For example: If I
get info on a file, copy the icon and try to paste it to another
info window it sometimes don't work. Sometimes I can paste a icon to
a info window, but the icon does not change and I give up. But the
next day (after a restart) the new icon is there. I have tried
Diskwarrior but it reports no problem. Is this a OS X bug? I need
help. Any suggestions?
