NSFormatter Handling BackSpace and Delete

How is a subclass of NSFormatter suppose to handle "BackSpace" and "Forward
Deletes" in its override of the "isPartialStringValid" method? I was trying
to use NSCharacterSet controlCharacterSet with a NSScanner but that does
seem to want to work.
