For future reference, if it's not too much trouble, where was it documented, and what else am I missing by not reading *that* document?

It generally isn't. There's no man page, and it's only mentioned in a few ADC Q&As and tech notes, such as <http://developer.apple.com/technotes/tn2002/tn2064.html>.

After reading your message, though, I filed bug report #3249547 asking for better documentation on the tool... This is a really frequently asked question, believe it or not, and it often comes up once after every time a software update includes a new version of an existing framework.
