Conversely, Objective-C also supports static typing so that would mean that parameterized types are needed as well?

From the GoF book: "Parameterized types [i.e., generics] aren't needed
at all in a language like Smalltalk that doesn't have compile-time type
checking." (Design Patterns, p22). Same applies for Objective-C.
