iTunes events?

I have written an application called iLyric, URL: http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/19629 which does stuff with the iTunes database. I have had many request from my users to have the program react in real time to events in iTunes. Events such as the playing of a song. In searching, I can't seem to find any documentation on what events if any iTunes generates.

A good pointer is what I am looking for.
