pasteboard access in an ssh session

  • Subject: pasteboard access in an ssh session

I've written a command tool that writes to and reads from a pasteboard (similar to Apple's pbcopy and pbpaste). It works fine in Terminal.app at the local desktop but if I ssh into the machine (as the same user with an active desktop login) I'm not able to manipulate my pasteboard with my either utility or pbcopy/pbpaste.

Is there a way to work with the pasteboard in a remote shell?
