Just curious, is there any rule or anything when choosing an identifier for your application. The default is "com.apple.myCocoaApp", should we go with "com.apple.<myappname>" or just use the appname, or possibly "com.<mycompanyname>.<myappname>"?

The major goal here is that it should be unique. If you own the domain foo.com, then you can be reasonably confident that an identifier of the form com.foo.myappname is unique. That is why we recommend this form.
