Automating a background picture in a DMG

Hi All,
I'm not positive if this is the correct place to post my question, but
I've searched high and low for some kind of answer, and can't seem to be
able to find it.
I've managed to whip up a script (mostly by modifying other people's
scripts) that will automatically .app up our app, create a PackageMaker
package, and move that PackageMaker package to a newly created DMG.
What I'd like to add into this process is to automatically set the
background image preferences of the DMG to a custom image we have. By
copying the .DS_Store of an existing folder with the background image
set up, I was able to have the DMG's Folder place the icon in the
correct position, although the icon is the incorrect size and the
background image is not shown. Are there any ways to automate this?
Can I use AppleScript to direct the Finder?
