If you are distributing XBar as a "sit", this could be the reason.
If a user is decompressing with the latest version of Stuffit (8),
the executable bit is not being set for your app. There are fixes
for this provided at Aladdin's site that you can pass on to your
users (see support>FAQs). You can also distribute as a dmg or a sitx
and avoid the problem.
Hello again -
In my spare time I develop a program called XBar -
http://macosx.syr.edu/spottedsoftware (Insert shameless plug here). Up
until version 1.2 I had absolutely no problems with users
running/installing this program. However, with my most recent release,
version 1.2, I have received a number of emails from users stating that
they can not run my program.
Initially, I chalked it up to the botched 10.2.8 update. However,
the new update has come out, I have since installed the update, moved
to the gcc-3.3 compiler, but am still receiving problems in regards to
running the application. Even from people running 10.2.7. According
to the emails I have received, users state that clicking on my
application yields nothing. No application launch whatsever.
The only thing I can possibly think of that would cause problems is
the CGSReadObjectFromCString & CGSSetGStateAttribute used to draw drop
shadows on a transparent child window. These changes were added in the
1.2 release. Could this possibly be causing the problem?
Also, I obviously have no problems running this app on my computer,
neither do my friends who have Macs. They all have the developer
applications installed on their computers. I wonder if that makes a
difference at all.
Anyhow, anyone who could provide any insight in this problem would
be greatly appreciated! Its really bugging me that folks are having
problems with the software I am creating. Any how, thanks so much in
advance for any help!
