It might not have been documented prior to the upcoming release of Panther, but it's been used by Apple in applications for Jaguar - and that's also a kind of documentation...

It's never been mentioned in mailing lists archived at mamasam, and a search
of developer.apple.com didn't turn it up. Imagine that.
