Might have something to do with this (from the AppKit Release Notes):
"One known incompatibility is with applications which messaged the
panel after it was released. This often worked before. If you notice
that an application crashes after using the open or save panels, you
can, as a debugging or temporary measure, set the
NSDelayedSavePanelDeallocation user default to YES, which should avoid
the problem. This default will be removed in the future."
