You should (although some folk don't) charge an hourly fee commensurate
with your experience and any additional value you can add to the
project. The higher the better, of course. A good way of doing this
is to see gauge demand (i.e., monster.com, dice.com) and see what's the
going salary/hourly wage for someone at your level of expertise. Line
up some references to able to back up your claims and you should be set
to go.
If you have little or no experience then don't bother going
independent. You will likely burn some bridges with such experiments.
My suggestion is to either get a job in a company or maybe even develop
some good shareware and get yourself noticed in the mac community.
