Alerting when locked

In my application, when a document is locked (as in someone went into
info for that document and checked off locked), a little lock icon is
displayed. Now, what I want is that if someone goes into info and
unchecks the lock for my application or document to somehow be notified
so that I can remove/add the icon. How do I do this?
