I'm a newcomer to Cocoa and to development frameworks in general. I
chose Cocoa because I've heard lots of great things about it, but I
still don't understand why it is superior to other development
frameworks like PowerPlant, MacApp, or even MFC and Java's own
framework. Since I've not had any experience with any of these
frameworks, I'm looking for a thorough and complete explanation that
even a novice like me can understand. I want to know the major ways
Cocoa is different from all the other frameworks on the market, and
why those differences make Cocoa a better environment to develop in.
By the same token, if there's any part of Cocoa that's inferior to
some of these other frameworks, I like to know about them as well. I
hope this knowledge will increase my understanding and appreciation of
Cocoa. Thanks in advance for those who respond.
Just a quick comment: I think that answering this question would
require a huge amount of work to compare and contrast all of the
development frameworks mentioned, and that even if someone goes to all
the work to do so, that if you've never used any of them many of the
answers as to why parts of one are better than parts of another are not
going to mean a whole lot to you.
So while I'd be fascinated in reading any other responses you might get
to this question, I'm afraid you are very unlikely to get a truly
"thorough and complete explanation".
