This was asked here not too long ago and answered by a senior Apple person.
It's a bug, expected (already?) to be fixed in Panther. The workaround for
now, as best I recall, is to stop using autosavename for your columns (or,
if you use it, never delete any columns). I think there's something about
this in the Jaguar release notes.
Somebody correct me if I got this wrong.
