Maybe you hadn't read my previous post: I AM NOT using Panther, I have a
SINGLE user, and this is a WIRELESS networking solution, so users SHOULD
have thier own profiles, especially if they are out and about and need to
have seperate profiles for seperate occassions. Not only that is it is a
User REQUIREMENT that we have seperate profiles.
Sir, you need to evaluate how you treat others in the development
community,
or soon you won't have a development community left.
I agree that it happens maybe a bit too often that the Cocoa dev community
first takes the route of criticising the design decision of the developer
before trying to help find an immediate solution to the question. However,
in many cases that is a warranted first step. My message did acknowledge
that in rare cases there could be a need for something like you were
looking for, but in the majority of cases it is not. I may also have
assumed that you would like your application to run on Panther once it is
released within a few weeks to a few months now...
Furthermore, I would like to point out that I consciously chose to respond
to Mr Farmsworth in private, because of his blatant flamebait. I found that
his message was long out of line. Discussing it in detail here on the list
is not desirable, especially not now, after the list-mom stepped in.
Last commend: When asking for advice on a public mailing list, staffed with
developers who are not paid to participate, you have to stand that people
will first make sure that you made your homework and have your design well
thought-out. That you aren't just using the list as a replacement for
reading the documentation. This scrutiny may even help you look over your
design decisions from a different perspective. If you don't want to "waste
time" describing exactly why you have that exact requirement, then there is
no reason why we would want to "waste time" trying to help you.
It should not be our decision to decide whether people posting to this list
are "right" or "wrong" in their design decisions. The kind thing to do is
to make suggestions, not berate them like this thread has done, and help
them in their quest. They will learn from their mistakes, besides the
documentation is very limited and sparse. I don't blame this guy for asking
a question about what should be a simple task. I have tried to provide help
to someone in need and I'm tired of the hassles that inexperienced
programmers receive when trying to achieve knowledge via the mailing lists.
In the future, please try to help and not hinder, the majority of comments
made in this post have been meant to discourage, I was simply trying to
return the favor to those responding.
I would have loved to keep this conversation too out of the list, but
Farnsworth's decision to repost my message to the list, prompts a reply.
