I would like to ask Safari which word is rendered underneath the current mouse position at any given time.
Is that at all possible? It is certainly possible in Explorer for Windows, so it would be really nice if Safari did offer the same functionality.

AFAIK Accessibility support in Safari isn't yet implemented. You may have to wait for a future release to get this feature. If you don't need to remote-control Safari, you might want to look into WebKit's APIs. WebKit is the HTML engine used by Safari, and may have some mouse-tracking APIs. But I haven't had the opportunity to check.
