Adding menus to Dock items

Is there a way, through a script, to add a menu item to an item in the
Dock, such as the Finder icon or the Trash? I would like to add my own
menu item and link it to another program. I'm figuring this is
possible, considering some of the other haxies which have been
developed, but I'm not sure how to go about doing this.
