I think Pantomime is fairly old (2 years is pretty long :) ) but the

problem is the lack of documentation. I haven't used it for reading
mail, but
for sending mail it works how I'd want it.
Pantomime 1.2.0 will be out in a couple of weeks (3-4). It'll be fully
documented, contain a useful example application and feature major
enhancements (like the new asynchronous I/O code).
