Sure it's okay. In fact, I'd definitely recommend it. There's a common
theory among a few Mac developers that the market is too small for
competition. But one of the reasons it's small is that there are fewer
Mac apps than PC apps. BTW, Little Snitch looks like a great product.
I have a better suggestion though. Instead of releasing something
that's as good as something already existing in the Mac universe, do a
bit of homework and see if there's already something better that exists
in the PC world. And check the Linux world as well. Due to increased
market pressure over there, that's sometimes the case (though PC
software developers tend to spend very little time on interface
design). Find out what the best product is, for what you're doing, on
every platform, then try to do better than that. If more Mac developers
did that, the Mac market share would grow much faster.
Definitely release your product. But it's not enough to be better, you
should also be different.
