Panther & AppleShowAllFiles: How do you make it work?

  • Subject: Panther & AppleShowAllFiles: How do you make it work?

I'm trying to make the NSOpenPanel in Panther display all the files (i.e. .DSStore, /usr, /etc...).

On version of Mac OS X 10 prior to Panther, there was a default named "AppleShowAllFiles" you could use to make all the files appear in the Open or Save panel/sheet.

On Panther, this does not work anymore. I tried setting the flag directly in the default to have it set before the application launch. With no result.

I understand Panther is supposed to be "User centric". But last time I checked, developers were using it too. This "User centric" thing is reminding me the Single Window mode in Mac OS X 10.0 DPsomething.

So is there a way to display all the files in Panther (when rewriting the whole NSOpenPanel and NSSavePanel code is not an option)?
