apple system profiler

I am looking at making a program that will run once on each workstation that we own. This program will create a report similar to that of apple system profiler, plus additional information specific to my company and its applications.

I am curious on how to create this type of report. I need information on the serial number, cpu, ram, IDE devices, printers, etc. I have seen several apps out there that can do similar tasks, but they dont allow data dumps to databases.

Can somebody point in in the right direction on this one? I am looking for any sample code, tutorials, or books that will help.

Thanks
Frank
