Ehm... did any of you see my proposal about letting the program (which generates the image) write to a named pipe?

Virtually nothing needs to be changed in his original program, he just needs one call to mkfifo(). No threads, no kevent and the image is loaded as soon as the data becomes available (even incrementally), so no guessing, sleeping, or similar... :)
