I'd love to be able to do this. It seems that as a programmer you can disable other elements of the font panel, such as the size and collections list, but you're always forced to have the "Effects" controls visible. As a user though you can choose to hide the effects from the panels cog-wheel menu...

In my opinion it's a poor UI that allows the user to make choices that are ignored. Unfortunately it seems that the font panel forces a potentially poor UI on everyone, since you can't disable these effects controls; when these options are not supported they simply shouldn't be visible.

For example within Safari's Appearance preference panel you can select the display font which uses the font panel, so I can apparently set shadows and colours, however Safari just ignores these choices. If I can't make these choices then why are they being offered to me?

Besides this one flaw I think the font panel is great - it just seems to be slightly incomplete.

Steve
