Just to be safe (and to reiterate an important point for the archives):
You are running the most recent version of IB for your OS version, right?
The entire xCode suite is apparently very dependent on certain parts
that change between OS versions, and thus if you install a MacOS
update and don't notice Apple have also released a dev tools update
to go with it, you can end up with ...
... well, rant-worthy material.
Going off on a tangent, I may also mention that xCode and Co. use
Unix tools under the hood, and that while they write really cool
compilers, they apparently still haven't noticed that there may be
people who like having spaces or Umlauts in their filenames.
So, if you happen to have trusted in the usual quality of Apple's
products, you may want to go back, put on your paranoid hat and fix
such things.
