If you're just using CJK characters, then why don't you just set up the
matrix as text cells? Mac OS X supports Unicode, which in turn supports
CJK characters.
As far as a backend for "up to 1 million" records - well, what sort of
data will you be storing in the database? How dynamic will it be?
