Just out of curiosity, which paths changed? I know in OS 9 it was quite
relevant because the on-disk folder names would change for various
locales, but what changed post-OS X 10.0?

People are warning you about it because Apple *did* change paths in
the past and they probably will again in the future. Applications that
don't reference things by hardcoded paths will have no problem
adjusting.
