Why? If you don't have admin privileges just drop the app into a private application folder.

Agreed. But that's potentially not what the user wants to do.

I will dare to finally add that any application drag and dropped in the /Applications folder is set with the wrong permissions and/or owners.

I really hate installers. You never know what they are doing.

Maybe with installers that are not Packages. When it comes to .pkg, it's really easy to know.

I'll take drag & drop installation over an installer any time. That's what's Apple recommends too, by the way:

http://developer.apple.com/documentation/UserExperience/Conceptual/ OSXHIGuidelines/XHIGFirstImpressions/chapter_6_section_3.html

"Installing your software is the first task users must accomplish before they can use your application, and you should ensure that it is a quick and painless experience. The best method is a simple drag install: The user drags an icon or a folder from your CD, for example, to a chosen destination on another disk."

Sure, can you give me a list of applications sold or freely available from Apple that are not in a Package or in an Installer?

When in Rome, do as Romans do.

My $0.02.
