Progress dialogs

Can somebody point me at documentation or samples that might get me started on adding a progress sheet or dialog? Basically I want to show some progress indication while I'm reading and parsing a large text file while also providing users with the option to cancel the operation. Having read through the SDK help and browsed the web, I can see various approaches but I'm a little lost as to which would be best. Any suggestions?
