This afternoon, while moving around and compiling my Cocoa application on my
Panther Powerbook G4, I triggered a weird problem which several users had
reported to me earlier.
1. Launching from Finder: Quits 2 seconds after launching. No crash.
Also, I notice that its icon is the generic "A". "Get Info" shows
kind=Application.
2. Launching from Path Finder (the shareware Finder replacement): Same
quit 2 seconds after launching, no crash; however correct icon is displayed.
3. Launching from inside package (.../Contents/MacOS), using either
Terminal or Finder: Runs perfectly.
4. Repeat steps 1, 2, 3 many times. Tried recompiling, checked through the
package, etc. etc. Everything looks OK. Restarted my powerbook. Still
same problems.
5. Copied to another Mac (Jaguar). Verified that it runs perfectly on the
other Mac.
6. Back on my powerbook, doubleclicked on its icon again. Now it works!!
But the icon is still the generic "A". Restarted Finder. Now I see the
correct icon!!
7. Tried doubleclicking the icon again. Now, it is broken again (quits
after 2 seconds). But the icon is still OK.
Well, I suspect that if I'd do a few more recompiles, recopies and restarts,
that this would all go away like a bad dream. Any idea what is going on?
Some of Panther's caching voodoo? I hope I can check it out before it fixes
itself!
