That's not what he was saying. Many, if not most, well-known
cryptographers warn against using any cryptographic algoritm that is
not available for public scuteny. The reason they say this is that
cryptography is difficult and cryptographers are humans and therefore
make mistakes.
The only way to be reasonable certain that an algoritm (!=
implementation) is security is to have other, good, cryptographers
have a look at the algoritm. There are many algoritms by respectable
cryptographers that were broken soon after they were published, even
when the original designer thought they were safe.
His customers might adhere to a different belief system. As you say
"many if not most" logically also means there are also "some if not
most" who say the opposite.
I'd suggest lets suspend the thread till tuesday, when the result comes
in.
