Custom NSView from IB Palette refuses to shrink

I've created a custom palette for IB with two items in it, both
subclasses of NSView. Unfortunately, instances of my two instances
dragged into a window cannot be resized to be smaller. They can be
made larger, but after setting the new size, they can't then be made
smaller than that. I've not seen this behaviour anywhere else, and
can't figure out why it occurs. There doesn't seem to be any visible
mechanism controlling this, either in IB or programatically.
So, any ideas?
