I'm finishing up a switch to Cocoa from PowerPlant and I really wish I had
just gone with Cocoa initially instead of wasting two years carbonizing
(and still not getting an application I was satisfied with).
The basic gains revolve around saving time and not having to worry about
system changes (such as problems with PowerPlant tab views on Panther).
Since the framework is from Apple, you'll never have to worry about not
having the correct appearance/behavior.
Other gains are based on what your application does. If you are working
with text, the Cocoa text system is in a totally different league from
MLTE. And any user of the DataBrowser will be very happy to work with
NSTableView (and to a lesser degree, NSBrowser).
I also saved a lot of time with the layout features of IB instead of
having to manually count pixels in Constructor.
In the time for a normal major upgrade I've rewritten my application
in Cocoa, seen performance increase significantly, and added a slew
of new features that I never could have implemented in Carbon in the
same time period.
