Sending email programmatically

I am looking to create an email and send it out programmatically without the user's email application coming up.

The method using NSMailDelivery that is illustrated in Cocoa Programming by Scott Anguish, etc. does not appear to be supported anymore. At least nothing comes up on the search at Apple's site.

What is the accepted method for an app that has to run under Jaguar and Panther?
