iPhoto style thumbnails or similar

Hi,

I'm looking for a bit advice on making a view of thumbnails, similar to iPhoto, although the smooth zooming isn't essential.

I though of using an NSTableView with custom cells, but this would not allow single cell selection without a fair amount of work, is there a better way?
