Hi,

This little episode made me think about the problem a bit: First off, any barriers in the way of someone getting going in developing for Apple will only reduce the number of people.

And secondly: why not make xcode an open source project? Apple should keep up the rate of development. I'm really pleased to see them providing a standard level of developer tool, and trying, apparently quite sincerely, to make us developers more productive. But what would they have to lose by opening the developer tools? Xcode is a big Cocoa app; making it "model code" and releasing it would give us lots of good code examples, and any effort from the community to improve the thing would feed back into the productivity of the rest of us.

Regards,
Mark Patterson
