Connecting to a pop server

Ok. Well NSURL won't work, or at least I can't make it work. And I cannot figure out NSConnection. Are there any examples for using NSConnection? Or is there a better way to connect to things like pop or ldap servers? I've poured through pantomime and the truth is that I cannot figure out how to use it. Any help would be great.
