Hi Scott,
My extension is "eap". If I have a file called test.eap, the Finder's Get
Info shows the name and extension as "test.eap" w/o the "Hide Extension" box
checked. With that box checked, the Name and extension remains the same, but
up under General, the name becomes "test". The Kind displayed is correct for
my app/document type. That all looks right...
I've also verified in the terminal that the file names are all "blah.eap"
with nothing extra.
I just noticed that if I get info on the file and tell it which copy of my
app to open with, then the duplicate works fine with that document (as well
as with duplicates of the duplicate). If I create a new doc package with the
app and duplicate that, I'm back to square one until I change the "open
with" setting to point to my app. (Note though that double clicking on the
document does launch my app to open the file)
The weirdest thing is that whenever the Get Info window comes up (even after
changing that setting) it says open with "Not applicable", not my app's
name.
Oh crud. I think I've been dancing around a Launch Services cache sync prob.
I just tried it on another machine and everything works fine, including the
display of the app to launch with. Looks like everything's ok after all.
Thanks anyway.

What is your extension? The Finder has some rules about what it
