User process writing to Root owned file

Hi,

I have a SystemPreferences Plugin that I want to read from a root owned file that any user has read priviliges. And after they have made changes I want it to authenticate and have them enter a admin password so that the file can be written back out to.

I am sure this is possible, but just to make sure is it?
And I am not familiar with Authenticating to be able to do this, any examples or pointers on how to do this?

The file is actually a sqlite DB file that will be owned by root that be daemon creates, but my SystemPreferences Pane plugin needs access to change some stuff in it.

Matt
