I was poking around in the different classes and came across NSTimer. Would NSTimer over come this issue all together?

Having just used NSTimer to implement some periodic behavior in an application, and having left that app running when I put my powerbook to sleep and then woke it up again, I can confirm that NSTimer behaves well- the method continues to be called as soon as the computer wakes back up.
