I'm not doing any custom drawing; I'm just setting the default
programmatically, mainly because it toggles back and forth depending on
what the application is doing at the time.
When you drag a button in IB onto a window, you can see a square
surrounding it while the button is selected. The square on the
screenshot seems even bigger than that, overlapping onto the text field.
I still don't know why it would not do it on my machine: OS version,
processor, or something else?!
This is the correct behavior. Panther (10.3) offers a new appearance
for NSBox.
Thanks for clearing that up for me. Even though I'm still running
Jaguar, I really should stay up on things like that.
