The write method is find within a @protocol, I have no clue what these are and how to use them. I need to call the write method found within this protocol.

I suggest you re-read The Objective-CProgramming Language http://developer.apple.com/documentation/Cocoa/Conceptual/ObjectiveC/ in case that is not the only thing you don't know about.
