Finding info via app signature?

I'm trying to find a way to find the applications name and icon via its signature (for example, com.apple.iTunes would result in the iTunes icon and the real name of the application, iTunes). Any ideas? NSBundle's bundleWithIdentifier returns null with the above example, and some earlier posts on the topic seem to point to launch services.
