Why is the list so slow?

Can somebody explain to me why this list takes so long to post a
message after it's sent? It's sometimes annoying, because there are
always a few answers sent to a question so this results in repetitive
emails. I'm guessing its because so many lists are on apple's servers,
but wasnt sure.
