Heck, I live in the US (although I'm a Resident Alien Snowback) and I
don't know what it means to hike, swim and eat like Americans. All of
these things seem the same as they were in Canada, except that there
is less bacon.
I don't think "like Americans" was referring to the swimming and
hiking. Just the eating. And like you said, there's less bacon.
That's the difference.
