Attaching file types & icons to app

This may be a newbie question:

I have a Cocoa app I have written. My app has one type of file that it saves. I want to attach a custom icon for my file's type so that it is asscociated with my application.

1) How do I make my file type asscociate with my application?

2) How do I make my file's icon show up in the Finder with my own custom file icon so that it matches my app?

I am doing all of this in Cocoa and XCode/IB 1.2

Thanks,

James
