I would send a bug-report to Apple, I have once successfully made them
improve an implementation which was a performance bottleneck, so it's
not highly unlikely they will react on your findings.
Of cause that doesn't solve the problem here and now...
What I was wondering was: does anyone else have this problem? Or it
something Bad I did to Good code (TM)?
