I can't tell you how it is supposed to work :) but I was also surprised to find no mention of the key chain in the release notes, because I think two other things have also changed: 1) under Jaguar the system would give your window a default key chain of all the objects which would acceptFirstResponder, even when you had set an initialFirstResponder, where Panther gives you a key chain containing only the initialFirstResponder (but I might be wrong here!?!), and 2) a bugfix relating to NSComboBox, where the focus would advance by one each time you'd re-open the window.
